: Either way, just bolting in 2 1/2 lbs. to a boat that you've worked
: at keeping light seems a waste.
Agree completely. I tried making adjustable wooden footrest systems and they kept blowing apart on me. I now use laminations of minicell foam presses against the front bulkhead. I use between 3 to 5 pieces varying in thickness from 1-3" to allow a wide range of size adjustment. They're cut slightly oversized so they hold by friction. The outer-most (which your feet rest on) is double-beveled (top to bottom and from centerline) for comfort. I cut a small slot in each one along the keelline for a fingerpull. They can be tough to get out. For footrests they are very simple (nothing to break), very adjustable (off the water only) and very light (less than a pound for 6" of adjustment). Fairly inexpensive as well and they'll never break. I've built them into over 8 boats.
