Here's something a world apart from Reg's new toy!

Since we just had two days of relatively warm temps, I was finally able to finish this new boat - I've been chomping at the bit, very frustrated with the below freezing temps we've had!

Anyway, this one is a "recreational" boat, patterned after the short, fat plastic monstrosities that are very popular with casual paddlers. Mine is 12' long and 30" wide and weighs about 28lbs - about 20 pounds less than a plastic boat of similar size. This one, of course, is yet another skin-on-frame, and is my own design.

Multi-chined, of Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir and marine plywood, lashed and glued, and skinned with 8oz polyester. No rocker, mostly flat bottom amidships.

I started this boat on Thanksgiving, finished the frame a few days later, then had to wait for a couple of weeks for the weather to warm back up to finish her off. Maybe 7 days total, mostly part time.

I'm giving it to some friends, who are new paddlers. Should be just right for messing about - stable, roomy, user friendly and easy to carry around.

I'll do some varnish and such after the new year.
