Material: Vinyl decal

Hi All ~ I searched the Archives and cannot find an answer, so here's hoping someone can assist me. Can a vinyl decal be placed on bare wood and then fiberglassed, epoxied and varnished over it without ill effects? I know that it can be placed on afterwards, but before? Thanks for any help, pros/cons to this idea, and hope that you all had Happy Holidays!
