Two things come to mind here. First, it'd certainly be best that the decal be small, since as Mike sez, it pretty much represents a breach in the bond between glass and substrate. Second, the suggestion that test sample be made to see how it goes.

I'd think anything up to roughly the size of a business card, or maybe even a playing card, would be okay, but I'm not so sure I'd want to go much bigger.
