I'd go with yellow carpenters wood glue backed up with a few strategically placed brads.

You could also go with epoxy but have to be careful not to clamp or nail too tight and squeeze all the epoxy out of the joint.

Glue and brads, no fuss no muss. Especially if you are backing the joints up with metal reinforcements then there is no real stress on the joints anyway.

: glue the corners of the oak pieces and hold 'em reasonably well.
: The corners will also be supported with metal fasteners on the
: back. Clear plexi-glass will be inserted into cut grooves to
: create a clear and protective cover for the stuff that will be
