I'm fortunate with this new job with the school board. I was an electrical designer/techie/maintenance for Michelin Tires for 30 years, then two years as a consultant. I worked on machine installations most holidays. I now get more holidays than I ever did. I'm on call if the control systems indicate a major problem at a school site, but I'm home more holidays than I've been in 33 years, and home every night which is a big improvement from consulting. Just to ensure I get no peace, I've been a volunteer firefighter for 19 years.
