: I have been looking for a shop to build a kayak for a long time.
: Now I think I have found one. There's just one drawback: I have
: to store the kayak outside during the daytime, when I´m not
: building. My plan is to put it in a large wooden box (to protect
: it from weather and vandalism) with casters under it, so i´m
: able to move it around during the build.
: But how do I make a strongback that is stable enough to be moved?
: I´m especially worried about the glue joints between the
: strips.
: I have see a few descriptions for mobile stands, but I don´t know
: how they will work when the kayak must be moved daily.
: Any ideas are welcome.

You might look at the Redfish Kayak site. They ship kits in a crate that then doubles as a strongback. They have some pics on their web site. I think something like that might work if not even a bit bigger. I think whatever you build will need to be bend and twist resistant while only supported from 2 points. I see a large diameter box beam at least 12"x12" (the bigger the better) built with plywood sides, top and bottom and 2x corners. Smartly overlap all seems. Screw or bolt section risers on top, legs, wheels whatever on bottom. How about making the beam 24" wide by 12" deep and then whatever cover you make can attach to the sides of the beam. Be careful of temperature and humidity fluctuations.
