I find that part of doing a precise job is to use your tools in a comfortable position. While taking down the strips completely can get awkward with the long-narrow-thin strips I'm using, it is made up for by being able to hold the plane in a comfortable, natural position. I can see what I'm doing without having to bend over and can work quite quickly.
