It will work great if you put it over the fiberglass and varnish, once you're all done. I used bronze rub strips on my SOF kayak and it holds up very well. They're attached with bronze boat nails and clear 3M marine silicone. I didn't use 5200 because I wanted some chance of removing them if I wanted to.
