: Hello to the forum, haven't been here in some time since building
: my first and only stripper, a One Ocean Kayak Storm SLT for my
: daughter. Unfortunately, college and life has gotten in the way
: of her using boat, and its been stored outdoors, but under good
: overhead cover. It dearly needs to be re-varnished as we have
: some flaking and peeling going on.
: What would be some recommendations on how to sand and prep, without
: getting into the glass? I'm very rusty at this, and kinda forgot
: how I wet? sanded with what sandpaper in what steps, etc. Of
: course I'm always looking for the quick easy way, as if there
: were such a thing with varnish, LOL. Just looking for a
: serviceable and very protective finish, as opposed to a showroom
: job.
: Thx to all !
: Mark
: ps: this could very well vault me into building another stripper
: for myself, since I sold my Pygmy Coho kit boat.
Hi Mark,
I'd recommend using a chemical stripper to remove the varnish without touching the glass. The citrus based strippers are both safer on you and the boat and will remove the varnish just fine and won't bother the epoxy a bit.
