Personally, I prefer inlay - metal or wood. For wood, cut out your design, trace it on the boat, route it out, glue it in, sand it down.
For metal, lay out the design on your hull, route it out, glue in your metal, sand it down. Epoxy and fiberglass over either method works, but is not necessary. Extreme care with the routing is!
