Ted and Fred,
Thanks for the tips. I have started an experiment.
*Initial* results, Warm Silvertip wets out better than Cold Silvertip, but cold Raka is better than both. More observations to come.
I took some cockpit cutouts. One with Silvertip cold, another with Silvertip warm, and a third smaller piece with Raka. Each used 6oz plain weave E-glass with silane finish from Sweet Composites (style 3733 I believe). I don't want to give up on the less expensive Raka just yet, and need to test it's impact behavior since boat number one shows bruises with a different fabric.
When I put on the epoxy, I gave it every opportunity to fail, meaning I didn't work it in beyond busting the biggest bubbles.
My shop, which is in my heated basement, is about 65 deg F.
For the warm Silvertip, I measured out the epoxy into small 2 oz portion cups and placed them into a pie pan of warm water.
I'll post more tomorrow after it all has a chance to cure a bit.
Stay tuned for more exciting and highly unreliable scientific research.
Mac
