In Response To: Strip: Yakama foot brace install (mtkayak)

: I purchased Yakima foot braces with sliders to install into my
: first build. Not that I need them for the Great Auk, but I had
: thoughts of someday trying a sail rig out so I figured I'll put
: them in now.

: Has anyone used the One Ocean Kayak way of installing them, with
: the nut glued to the hull rather than the threaded post? Just
: concerned with strength. I don't know how I like sinking the nut
: into the wood either. I could see how this would give a little
: more room.

: Looking for some opinions.

I have built two kayak with Yakima footbraces and Vaclav Stejskal's (One Ocean) way; 2006 & 2008 completions. I have had no problems with the strength. I followed his directions to the "t". I would finish up Yakima footbraces the same way next time.

If you want to do something different, you might also consider using a stud (or "t-bolt") glued to inside hull like the Footbrace Mounting Kit (FMK) from CLC.
