Consider using fiberglass instead of wood *PIC*

You might consider adding a layer of fiberglass to the tips on a greenland paddle instead of adding hardwood. I find that adding a piece of 6-ounce fiberglass to the ends makes it extremely abrasion resistant. It also weighs less than adding hardwood tips.
The photo below shows the fiberglass before trimming at the masking tape edge. A little sanding after that and one fill coat.
