: I built a wood frame Yost Sea ranger last year and would like to be
: able to eskimo roll it, but not sure what additional outfitting
: is required. I am currently building float bags, sea sock, and
: deck rigging.
: What I don't have is:
: -seat (sitting on wooden slats, actually fairly comfortable for the
: short trips I have done)
: -backband
: -foot braces or anything for my
: -thighs support (I have found I can brace my thighs on the skin
: quite comfortably.)
: Can I learn to roll without these items?
Can't really use a seat on the Sea Ranger or it'll be very unstable. Need to sit as low as possible. The floorboards (wood slats) are the seat.
For back band and foot braces I just use minicell foam, pad the frame behind the cockpit to act as a back band and glue to the frame in front of your feet to act as foot braces. The thigh supports will depend on the coaming shape you used.
