I find that deck-mounting way down by the forward hatch as one sees in commercial kayaks is just too far away for my eyes to see easily.
I use one of these and find it altogether simple, versatile, easy to use, and one can put it away when you don't need it on the deck, which, let's face it, for most or us is most of the time.
