I'd take a section of a strip, sand down the edge to remove the spots, then mix a small batch of epoxy and cover half the strip. In a couple days, assuming the spots return to the untreated half, you'll be able to see if the epoxy was enough to stop the migration. If so, you should be able to use the the strips (although you might put them on the hull where they'll be hidden most of the time).
