It think Bill's point about cutting of the wood would be exacerbated by the typical cycles of soaking and swelling, then drying and shrinking of the wood that occurs in SOF frames.
I would also be concerned that flexing of the frame would eventually cause fatigue and breakage of the wires. Clamptite is also considerably more expensive than lashing.
