: Hello Bill,
: You should check out the Scotty Sea Light. It has a 2 mile range,
: and they make one that has a 42" pole so it sticks up high.
: I don't like the pole being that high. I currently use a
: clamp-on light with about a 24" height that I clamp to a
: board which slides under my deck rigging. It also has Coast
: Guard legal 2-mile visibility. I am going to rig up something a
: bit more permanent. I was kind of experimenting. What I found
: after trying that light and head-mounted lights (headlamps front
: and back) is that the all-around light gives good visibility
: without messing up your night vision. I think the bow light
: combined with the 360 would eliminate the problem of your body
: blocking the 360 light.
: As for being mistaken for a boat on a mooring I would much rather
: be mistaken for a moored boat than to not be seen at all!
Hi Malcolm,
Lights on kayaks. I still wear my headlight that I can turn on at night, but I'm not normally paddling in waters at night with much traffic. If I were paddling in waters like that I suppose I'd find a way to rig lights better. The available lights work ok in fairly calm waters, I suppose you shouldn't be out at night if it's not very calm anyway.
