Robert, that's quite a ramble. Sure ALL the Guinness is in the fridge?

GR was a guy who used to post his designs and strong opinions on the board, and it probably was about 10 years back. He used to offer his kayaks in various finish levels, including "jewelry" or "museum" or something like that, which doubled the price of a basic finish. He favored 1/8" thick strips, redwood if I recall correctly, and double layers of 3 oz. satin glass: a very light, strong, composite structure. Ken Katz, I, and some others on this board have built boats with 3/16" strips and the doubled 3.2, and you definitely get a very light, ding-resistant craft from this layup. Nick banned GR when it became clear that his mental state no longer supported civil discourse--a quality always notable on this board. I believe he threatened a lawsuit once, in response to a fancied slight. It all became too much, so now he's history.
