I don't know if this has been covered or not, but I could not find anything in the archives, so here goes. I am building my first kayak, a Redfish King. Here in southeast Louisiana good clear western red cedar was proving difficult to come by, so I went with cypress, using 3/16 strips to offset the heavier weight. I got the hull done, did the planing and a rough sand with the fairing board when my problem occurred, and I hope it is not too disasterous. This is what happened, we had one of our torrential downpours, and water leaked all over the starboard aft quarter of my boat. What was a fair and smooth kayak now had about a 2 foot square of warped and waterstained mess staring back at me. I wrestled the strips back onto the forms, reglued the popped seams, and let it all dry. My worry is that it will pop out of shape again, and there are still some ripples even stapled back on the forms, when the staples are removed, and what to do about the discoloration, I'm hoping it will sand out. Anyone else have something like this happen, I really don't like the idea of restripping the bottom, but if I have to do it I will.
