Skin-on-Frame: Coaming from an Embroidery Hoop

I'm planning on using an 18" embroidery hoop for my coaming with a rope as the lip as per yostwerks site.

Few questions:

1. On the site it says to mix an adhesive filler with the epoxy resin to bond the inner and outer hoops together. Question...just with the resin, not with the resin and the hardener? And... instead of this...can I just use gorilla glue to bond the inner and outer hoops together?

2. Also the site instructs to use 1/2" to 5/8" woven polyester rope as the lip. Bought 1/2" and it just seems so thick. Could I use a lesser diameter rope, ie. 1/4" or 3/8"?

Thanks,

Rosanna
