:)

You mix the resin and hardener together in their correct proportions, then you stir in some cabosil/talc/wood flour/whatever to make it into an adhesive. You want a mayonnaise to peanut butter consistency.

This reminds me - I'm out of peanut butter.

Unlike thickened epoxy, Gorilla Glue, et. al, is NOT gap filling - that foam is mostly air - and it requires good clamping pressure. With round rope, your gluing surface is unlikely to be big enough to work.
Another option is to sew on the lip . . . .

How deep is the coaming lip on a commercial kayak? More than half an inch! You could try the 3/8's line, though. 1/4 is too small, IMO.

Here's a good primer on epoxy: http://www.clcboats.com/shoptips/epoxy_and_fiberglass/epoxy_basics.html

Good luck!

: I'm planning on using an 18" embroidery hoop for my coaming
: with a rope as the lip as per yostwerks site.

: Few questions:

: 1. On the site it says to mix an adhesive filler with the epoxy
: resin to bond the inner and outer hoops together.
: Question...just with the resin, not with the resin and the
: hardener? And... instead of this...can I just use gorilla glue
: to bond the inner and outer hoops together?

: 2. Also the site instructs to use 1/2" to 5/8" woven
: polyester rope as the lip. Bought 1/2" and it just seems so
: thick. Could I use a lesser diameter rope, ie. 1/4" or
: 3/8"?

: Thanks,

: Rosanna
