Ted, I've seen sloppy boats, too. However, I've built a lot of boats and have NEVER had water intrustion through deck holes coated with two coats epoxy (light sanding between coats). Those holes aren't subject to abrasion. I prefer doing it that way because it's easier, looks good, and is effective.
