: When i use any finishing product, i open the tin, pour out what i'm
: going to use and close the tin. How do you open a container and
: not let in oxygen ?
: Come to think about it, i picked up a trick from a Le Tonkinois rep
: long ago, he said after opening the tin to pour the remains of
: the tin into a plastic bottle (yoghurt for example) and squeeze
: out the air before closing.
The tip from Le Tonkinois is a good one, as long as your plastic bottle is air tight. When you open the tin oxygen gets in, so you either have to transfer the contents as was suggested, or use a product like Bloxygen, which is a spray of inert gas. If you don't, there is all of that oxygen in the top of your tin reacting with the oil.
I started mixing shellac a while ago too, because sometimes even the new cans I bought wouldn't pass the drying on glass overnight test. I think it's a much higher quality product when you mix it yourself too. Anyway- I think there's a similar test for oils on glass.
