I've switched from varnish to polyurethane

Kurt, I used 2-part polyurethane for the first time on 2 strip boats I built early last year. Compared to varnish, it is much more resistant to scratching and abrasion. It also does a better job than varnish of filling tiny scratches in epoxy.

Applying it was very similar to varnish. Need to maintain a wet edge.

I used a marine-grade polyurethane (Apco brand's Metacare 343 but you won't have this brand in the U.S.). My guess is than any automotive clearcoat would work well as they would have very high UV blockers.

Refinishing is probably very similar to refinishing with varnish.

PS: Get brushes that don't leave as many hairs in the finish as mine did.
