:I have moved from using 6-oz to using only 4-oz. The exterior of
: the underside of the hull is protected with either HBN or
: graphite applied in several coats. My NH S&G (4-oz build) is
: plenty strong with this layup and that also includes
: "not" using glass inside the hull, only seam tapes
: with really minor fillets. At first I was iffy about using such
: a light glass/epoxy layup but hey, it worked and the kayak is
: strong and super light...something below 30-lbs. I can pick the
: NH up with two fingers whereas my other kayak (known as the
: VJ...a Waters Dancing Lightning 17) has a heavy 6-oz layout
: inside and out and weighs a ton at +45 lbs. At least the 6-oz
: kayak feels like it weighs a ton...might be that I am getting
: older and weaker. I use the VJ primarily for trekking across the
: country fully loaded with lots of gear, the extra strength from
: heavier glass has preserved her well.

: Hmm, Linda says it's time for me to take my Geritol...best get
: going now.

Yeah, I picked up Nick's mystery at 32 lbs I want some of that, really something.
I'm going to stick with 4oz except for inside the hull(we have bull sharks and big gators) and see how it goes.
