We sometimes forget the attention our kayaks attract and take it for granted.

When I had a Night Heron and a stripper of my own design on my version of J cradles on the car, I stopped at a fast food outlet. While I was there, I saw two separate groups of people take photos of the kayaks.

I once paddled the Night Heron out around an island 10km off the coast. As it was my first real ocean paddle, I was feeling pretty pleased with what I had just done and thought that the small crowd of people who greeted us on our return would be impressed by what we had done. However, they were only vaguely interested in where we had been. They ignored the two fibreglass kayaks and just wanted to know everything about the homemade wooden kayak.

Some people have funny ideas about what is important though. The only comment from some people who saw me landing in the Night Heron Double, showed some interest, but their only comment was."Oh, look. It even has seats."
