That is a good idea but the problem I have with it is you can not clamp the cut off piece when your just cutting the end to make the scarf. I make a lot of that type of cut. When you have the cutoff laying on the the sled loose and it's just a missile waiting to be launched. Forget and slide the sled back there is a good chance the part has vibrated inline with the blade.

One of the versions was a sled and I saw the cutoff vibrate across into the blade path. I didn't pull it back but I saw what could happen so I scrapped that design in favor letting if fall on the table. I have had a couple of cutoffs wedge between the blade and the throat plate. It scares the heck out of me but at least it doesn't do any damage.

If I was leaving longer cutoffs I would probably have a sled and clamp the cutoff too. It's a good idea as long it is clamped. A loose cutoff on a sled is just an accident waiting to happen.
