: That is a good idea but the problem I have with it is you can not
: clamp the cut off piece when your just cutting the end to make
: the scarf. I make a lot of that type of cut. When you have the
: cutoff laying on the the sled loose and it's just a missile
: waiting to be launched. Forget and slide the sled back there is
: a good chance the part has vibrated inline with the blade.

: One of the versions was a sled and I saw the cutoff vibrate across
: into the blade path. I didn't pull it back but I saw what could
: happen so I scrapped that design in favor letting if fall on the
: table. I have had a couple of cutoffs wedge between the blade
: and the throat plate. It scares the heck out of me but at least
: it doesn't do any damage.

: If I was leaving longer cutoffs I would probably have a sled and
: clamp the cutoff too. It's a good idea as long it is clamped. A
: loose cutoff on a sled is just an accident waiting to happen.

I've given up on cutting tails with the table saw that way, too darned dangerous.

Better to use the band saw for cuts like that so kickback is totally eliminated.
