: I agree with Bill, If you are varnishing only with a brush it will
: be hard to maintain a wet edge all around the boat.

: For the method I outlined in my previous post I use a West System
: roller for laying the varnish on and I just tip off along the
: grain with a quality brush to pop any bubbles. If done correctly
: you should find that your varnish brush takes on almost no
: varnish in the tipping off process.

: This method allows one to lay on and evenly spread the varnish
: fairly rapidly.

: When applying second and third coats in chemical bonds (ie: No
: sanding between coats) it becomes necessary to work in specific
: spacings in order to know where you have and haven't varnished.
: You want to avoid going over old ground, and also avoid leaving
: dry spots.

: I find myself using the staple holes as a guide to where I am in
: the process.

: Have fun. Try not to trap too many insects.

Btw, when you're working on a $100k + boat, some owner's get just a little picky about the quality of the varnish.
