I don't think anyone's hurt, abused or ethically violated if a paddler wants to take e lines off a commercial boat for personal use. It's different if it's someone who sells plans since they are available, but the red tape about getting permission on a commercial boat would raise the red flag needlessly. If I wanted to build a wood NDK or Valley boat, I would just do it. I would probably send them a photo too when it's done. I would tell them it's for personal use. In psychology there's a saying "it's easier to apologize than ask permission".

It's like making a wood strip corvette. GM would probably hang the photo in their lobby.

BTW: the Force 4 is an OI with added rocker, higher deck and basically more mainstream.
