IMO, Melco tape isn't required for neoprene work. But it sure pretties it up.

I've seen a lot of heat sealed tape come off. On my neoprene that wasn't taped, where the nylon part started to pull apart, I've just glued over it with AquaSeal or Marine Goop. Sure, it looks uglier - but not nearly as ugly as where I tried to replace the poor neo neck on a Kokatat Supernova semi-dry suit with a Goss-inspired Glide Skin neck, that wasn't tight enough, and then that got cut off so that a latex gasket could be glued in.

Ah, I should have just spent the money for a Kokatat GoreTex drysuit...
