I got a Vaughn Bear Saw from a local Woodworking shop. I think they also sell them at Lowe's too. They have interchangeable blades, so you can get the set with the handle, then swap out the blades.
Anyway- I have a fair amount of experience with western saws, so I'm glad I went this way because I had problems getting used to it. I put a minor kink in a very thin early blade by pushing instead of pulling. It'd have been sick if I'd dropped big bucks on a spendy saw from The Japan Woodworker and done that to it. It took me about a year to get used to it. Now I feel ready to buy a nice saw. The Vaughn is great though. Really good quality, and very nice size. I just did a plumbing job and carried it around to cut through PVC, which it's great at. Swap out the blade and ten minutes later I'm making fine crosscuts in oak.
