Skin-on-Frame: attaching "rubrails"

Hello, hope all is well with everyone...

I need some help. I'm putting on consecutive coats of varnish on my sof sea tour 15 exp, stapled polyester cloth. My first idea was to put on 3mm thin sipo rubrails to hide the staples. How would i go about this ? Most of the info i found so far mentions using screws and epoxy to attach rubrails. This works with thicker rub stock and the sipo i have tends to split quite easily. 3M 5200 or an equivalent ?

Another thought was of putting on some kind of webbing - tape, but there are some wrinkles were the staples are, so this would probably show (carbon or kevlar tape a good idea ?).
