In my humble opinion, you're worried about nothing! Man, nice setup - no way I'm posting what my strongback looked like (can you say 'wood-butcher'?). Don't worry about it - glue it/staple it, and get on with it. That's not a gap (I could show you a gap, but.... that's my problem, not yours...)
