I have actually never built a stripper before but plan to. I am thinking if you want rigidity and dead straight, buy a piece of engineered structural beam stock from the local lumberyard. A common trade name is MicroLam and are available in a multitude of widths and lengths and are typically 1-3/4" thick. Rip it to the width you want and save the rest for the next project. If your real thrifty, cruise the job sites for leftovers or hit up the Habitat for Humanity stores.
