Dave Winkworth, the kayaker who wrestled the crocodile to save his mate up Queensland way a year or so ago, ran a "how to build it" session last year at our annual forum in New Zealand. So the answer is yes. Basically he cut the handle short and used a bungee to act as a return spring. If I remember correctly, from the handle going aft just under the deck. The pump sits between the foot pegs.
