I'm following the book pretty closely too, building my first, a Guillemot. I've recently glassed outside and inside the hull. The ends are so stiff I can hardly flex the gunwhales within 6" of bow/stern. Once the deck and hull are joined I cannot see it having any flex in it at all.

I think I will add in a small wedge shaped block of cedar (sort of like a mini-deck across the bow and stern), if only to help glue the deck and hull, and to provide something to drill a hole through for a toggle. But I can understand why folks don't bother with an end pour with it being so stiff with the glass alone.

Adding an external stem really helped to stiffen it up too.
