Good day Ian,

What I did was drill the hole with a forstner bit and then insert a PVC tube through the hole with expoxy and cloth wrapped around the tube to form a sturdy tube. After it all cured I reamed the ends to prevent chaffing of the lines and braided a loop of three-strand line through the hole to make an inter-braided loop for a hand grip and something to clip lines to. Worked great.
