Thanks for the interesting tip. I found Dave's post regarding his foot-operated bilge pump at:

It seems like this would be a fairly lightweight and reliable system.
However, because I want to use the forward space (between my feet and the bulkhead) for storage, and because I'm not convinced that in a real rough-water bailing situation you want to fool around pumping with one foot, I am going to install an electric pump. In fact that's today's project. I'm off to West Marine right now. I'll post my results when I'm done, probably next week sometime.
