: Hi there,
: I'd like to build a nikumi but I have no space for a 17 feet in my
: garage. Is there an easy way to build it 16 feet (keeping the
: same offsets and 21 inches wide)?
: I have been thinking about building a normal bow instead that long
: bifid one for example... or/and reducing (-5%) the lenght
: between the cross sections.
: Otherwise I should change the boat and build something wider (the
: sea tour 15 exp maybe ?).
The problem with changing an existing design is not knowing what negative impact it might have.
Here's a newer Baidarka design that can easily be built at 16ft long with little or no mods.
This is a very stable higher displacement kayak. The Links below show pics of a frame
recently completed by Hjalti Johannesson of Iceland. Note that the builder has included a bifid bow,
whereas the drawing shows it with a non bifid bow. Either way is ok. I'll send you the offsets if you want.
