Paddle: Epoxy failure on ash paddle

I made an ash paddle with a couple of 1/4 inch strips glued on and the epoxy failed. I had it stored in the unheated boathouse in Wisconsin. I had made it, including the gluing step, in a 55 degree basement. Is the temp the cause for failure, or do I have another problem?
