3M Super 77 spray adhesive is brilliant for this sort of work. It doesn't penetrate the wood, covers evenly (no lumps in the tape) and doesn't upset epoxy in the slightest.

I've used it extensively on wood, packaging tape (and polystyrene before they changed the glue to an acetone base). Perfect for complex curves - if you put the cloth on immediately while the glue is still wet you have a short period of movement to get things to sit right.

Other spray glues work too, but I can't vouch for their effect on epoxy.

: I will be joining the hull and deck on my second boat in a few
: weeks. I was thinking through the procedure this morning. On the
: first boat, I did the hot glue dots every 6 inches or so. Worked
: well, but I did get small lumps in the tape where the hot glue
: was placed, small thing but they bothered me. I occurred to me
: that I only need to hot glue the tape where I can't reach it,
: which happens to be where I will never see it either. I am going
: to try it that way.
