Hi,
Only can comment on the building. I build a wood duck 10 from plans and personally i found it kind of unnatural in terms of s&g building.
There are some very fine/sharp joints (deck hull joint at the bow, deck at the coaming), which are easily damaged during construction. The bow is under quite a bit of pressure.
Very light though for a s&g kayak, it being only 10 foot probably helps.
