: It's not? Now you tell me! I usually use painter eyes rather than
: toggles. When I carry the wood canoe on the roof of the van the
: painter is anchored to the front of the van and is the backup
: line in case the boat comes loose on the highway! It also acts
: as an eary warning if the boat starts to shift on the roof. The
: boat is so light I tuck it under one arm so toggles wouldn't
: really be much use for carrying.

If we have more than one person around we almost always use them to carry the boats. Course I'm talking a carry of maybe 100 ft. max.

Lots less trips to the water with a boat in each hand :)

Still the reason the toggles are there is for rescues.
