As mentioned for any SOF kayak some kind of a strongback will be needed, doesn't have to be awfully complex. The one on Tom Yost's site is pretty simple and also pretty cheap.
Cotton canvas has gotten a little more expensive the past few years and not many places carry it anymore. It works though if you can find it at a reasonable cost. Not sure that it'll be any cheaper.
