I can't remember for sure, but I believe the lighter weight nylon is easier to work with. I used lighter weight nylon, but I do treat my boat well. On the other hand, it has proven to be a good boat, so if I have to, I'll reskin it and be happy.

Dura Tuff is good, relatively flexible, but I think not tremendously elastic, which is what you want when dealing with the elastic nature of nylon. I have already sealed cracks behind the cockpit along the gunwales with Marine Goop. The rear deck gets pressed down along the inner edges of the gunwales due to sitting there on entry and exit of the boat - I believe this cracking is evidence that Dura Tuff isn't all that elastic.

However, Dura Tuff makes for quick coating of the skin.

I used roughly 2.5 quarts on my 17.5', 19" wide, lower volume kayak, with 5 coats of DT. Some of that was .5 quarts of tinted DT that didn't get completely used. I expect 2 quarts will be plenty for a 13" kayak.
