Corey Goop is my coating of choice, but it is shiny, and can delaminate if there is unset dye left on the skin. Just make sure all dye is set and has been rinsed. I have used a heat gun for setting the dye, but used steam (from a walpaper steamer) the last time with excellent results. One note, the steam will probably drip water and cause a mottled finish. I have also used Varathane, both oil-based (amber, hard, but slightly brittle) and water-based (dries clear, is really tough, but telegraphs the weave), SnowRoof (flexible but soft), latex paint (soft, but okay on cotton), and Tool Dip (shrinks as it dries, tough, but porous).
