I tried the double layer skinning method on a SOF for the family. I built it late last fall and haven't had a chance to take it out yet. The heat-shrink Dacron was great to work with and made a really nice, yet thin, covering on it's own. As a twist, instead of using fiberglass for the outer layer I used some Vectra cloth. It's similar (supposed to be superior) to Dynel and is very abrasion resistant. I've used strips of it on stems for wear strips with great success. The 4 oz woven fabric was pretty inexpensive: about $4.00 a yard. It'll be interesting to see how it fairs as a skin.
